And just as one race is coming to a close, another gets going in Sneem, Co Kerry this evening. Rás namBan is the biggest race on the calendar for women in Ireland and will take place over three days over some of the toughest roads in Kerry. Good luck to my friends Sandra Telford and Laura Banfield. You can follow the race on Twitter here.
The Race Around Ireland is nearing it’s climax at the moment. A few of my cycling friends are taking part in the the four man team category. At the moment, Team Wheelworx / Boards.ie is lying in second place and on track to hold on to that position by the time they hit Navan some time this evening. Good luck guys. Browsing through photo’s of Sunday’s Shay Elliot Memorial on Irish Cycling, I was intrigued by second place rider Dan Craven’s jersey. Unlike his Rapha Condor team mates, he was decked out in a white jersey with red, yellow and green bands. Turns out that Nambian Craven is the African Road Race Champion, a title I wasn’t aware of until today.
